My name is Laura Pals and I am the school counselor for Jacobson Elementary! I hold a Masters degree from Buena Vista University and have experience working with elementary-aged students in a school setting. I am excited to be working in my hometown to serve the students and families of Belmond-Klemme. My goal is to help students achieve their best and I look forward to working closely with you throughout the year!

As the school counselor, my role is to support the academic, personal, and social development of all students. Here are some of the services provided at BKCSD:

  • Individual Counseling - one on one support for personal, academic, and social concerns.
  • Group Counseling – small group sessions on topics like friendship, study skills, and more.
  • Classroom Lessons – regular lessons to teach important life skills.
  • Crisis Support  immediate support for students during difficult situations.
  • Referrals – collaboration with families to connect students with additional support when needed.

I believe in creating a warm and welcoming environment where every student feels valued and heard. I am here to listen, support, and provide resources to help each student thrive.

I am excited to continue to make connections with each of you and work together to make this school year a fantastic experience!

Social-emotional learning helps students understand their feelings, build positive relationships, and make responsible choices. Throughout the year, students learn skills such as:

  • Identifying and managing emotions

  • Showing empathy and kindness

  • Solving problems peacefully

  • Setting goals and persevering through challenges

These skills are taught through classroom lessons, group activities, and individual support.

Families play an important role in a child’s success. If you have concerns about your child’s academic progress, behavior, emotions, or friendships, please feel free to reach out.

Parents/guardians may request counseling support by filling out this form: Google Form for Parent Request of Services. Counseling services are short-term and school-focused. If concerns extend beyond school, the counselor is happy to help connect families with community resources.

Confidentiality is respected, and information is shared only when necessary to support a child’s safety and success.

Completing this form gives BK Counselors consent to meet with children regarding the information parents shared.  The Elementary School Counselor will reach out to you with any questions or concerns that may arise.

If you would like your child to receive telehealth therapy or psychiatry services during the school day, we do have a program with Classroom Clinic available. If interested, please contact Miss Pals at Jacobson Elementary.

Classroom Clinic offers telehealth in the following areas:

  • Psychiatric Evaluations
  • Establishment of a Diagnosis
  • Medication Management
  • Individual Therapy

Miss Laura Pals, Jacobson School Counselor, is the 504 coordinator for students in grades Kindergarten through 6th grade. If you feel like your student needs extra accommodations due to a medical diagnosis, please contact her at EMAIL or call the school at (641) 444-4300 ext. 1062. Thank you!
